I was going through the foxgrab and saw the pledge for the seat belts.
I took the pledge, and not just because I could win a TV.
On mother's day, my nephew was in a car accident with his other grandparents. If the boy had not been wearing his seat belt, he wouldn't have survived the crash.
Now here's the kicker. If he had been wearing the shoulder strap as well as the lap belt, he could've escaped without injury. But he was only wearing the lap belt and positioned the shoulder strap behind him.
He suffered severe bruising across his waist where the lap belt tightened up to hold him in place. He had to have emergency surgery on his intestine and colon because they were both damaged from the lap belt.
He also suffered a couple fractures to his spine and had to have 2 rods put in his back to support his spine for the rest of his life. He is very fortunate because the doctors said he is in the tiny 1% that didn't snap his spinal cord in this type of accident.
He is home from the hospital now. Doing great and on the road to recovery.
The reason for this post is to make sure that everyone knows 1) the importance of seat belts 2) the importance of the shoulder strap.
Do not let your kids or any passanger ride in your vehicle without the shoulder strap in place. It is possible that they can not be as lucky as my nephew.
Have a great and safe memorial day weekend!
