    SUGARLAND SMELLS!!!

Tuesday, September 2, 2008, 02:42 PM EST [General]

Sugarland officially called its current album Love On The Inside, but based on the decisions they made in developing the atmosphere in the studio, they could have easily titled it Light On The Inside.

Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush cut the CD at Southern Tracks in Atlanta, which has previously hosted sessions by the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Train, Travis Tritt and R.E.M. They put out a bevy of candles to create the right mood, but lighting was not the only reason for that choice.

"We're big on the way places smell," Jennifer says.

"A studio can smell close to a locker room on some days depending on what days you get it," Kristian adds.

"And it always has a certain smell of coffee in the studio," Jennifer continues. "I don't know what that is. I think it's because of the hours. But yeah, you can really change the ambience of a place just by the smell, so a couple of candles makes a big difference."

Sugarland's album now carries the scent of success. It's spent five weeks at No. 1 on the national charts, and it's almost platinum. In the meantime, the duo's award-winning "Stay" is featured on another new album: NOW That's What I Call Country, which came out last week. Among the 20 other hits on the NOW CD are titles by Gary Allan, George Strait, Kellie Pickler and Rascal Flatts.

LUKE BRYAN PIGS OUT ON COUNTRY MAN

Tuesday, September 2, 2008, 02:41 PM EST [General]

"I can wrestle hogs and gators with my two bare hands."

That's one of numerous boastful lines in Luke Bryan's playful "Country Man," though there's no hog-wrestling in the accompanying video. In fact, the closest he gets to that is dancing with a pig in his arms in front of a row of porta-potties.

"He got heavy after about 15 minutes in the video," Luke told the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville. "Then after he pooped all over me, I decided to sit him down a little bit. I squeezed the you know what out of him - [not really], I'm playing. If you look in the video - pay attention - but there's a scene where I'm bending down in front of the porta-potty, cleaning up something, getting it out of the way, because we were going in and out of the porta - do you hear what I'm saying? We're in and out of porta-potties. What an absurd video we've done."

Absurd indeed. It features line dancing, air guitar, a treadmill workout and a cameo appearance by a video-playing Dierks Bentley. "Country Man" is ranked at No. 18 on the latest edition of GAC's Top 20 Country Countdown.

On a more serious front, Luke takes part Wednesday night in a fundraiser at Nashville's Bluebird Café to benefit the Miller Harris Asthma Camp for Kids. Among the other participants are Jake Owen, Jessi Alexander and Jon Randall, plus songwriters Jedd Hughes ("Stay With Me (Brass Bed)"), Doug Johnson ("Three Wooden Crosses") and Phillip White ("I'm Movin' On").
