Gretchen Wilson has a new album on the way this fall, and Columbia released the first single from the CD, "Don't Do Me No Good," to radio on Monday. The song has a rollicking backbeat, a catchy hook and very smooth vocals by Gretchen, and it's already a well-received part of Gretchen's live shows.
"What a great way to kick off the summer with the new tune," she says. "After being on the road and taking the time to graduate, I'm ready to rock again on country radio."
Gretchen's graduation brought lots of attention this summer. She earned her GED in Wilson County, Tennessee, in May, after fitting in her studies while she recorded the new album, fulfilled her tour obligations and continued to raise her daughter, Grace.
"There's definitely a sense of pride that I have now bein' able to look at my daughter and say, ‘Here's why you have to do it,'" she says of the diploma. "It really is a big deal. It means somethin', and you gotta have a back-up plan, even though she's extremely talented. She has to have a back-up plan. It's not wise not to have it."
Gretchen did not have a fallback when she chased her music career, though when she looks back now, she realizes the odds were stacked heavily against her ever making it. Nevertheless, Gretchen did break through, and you can hear parts of her new single by logging on to her website, gretchenwilson.com.
Meanwhile, she appears Saturday on the GAC special CMA Celebrity Close Up, where she's interviewed by Lorianne Crook, as are Randy Travis and Taylor Swift. It debuts at 9 p.m. ET. Click here to watch a sneak peek!
