    Should actors really give opinions?

    Here come some responses!

    Michael J,

I think all stars are entitled to their political opinion but I feel they SHOULD NOT make it a point to let their opinion known. They should not use their “movie star soap box” to sway public opinion. We both know that many “regular” people are influenced by “movie stars” and do not do their homework to form their own opinion.

Michael J, I just watched the video of Matt Damon. As a registered independent voter I feel the Obama’s lack of experience is a lot more significant than Palin’s lack of experience. I have not yet decided who I am voting for in this year’s election and I’m anxiously awaiting the debates by both the Presidential candidates and the VP candidates. When I hear “Hollywood” expressing their opinions about politics it annoys the HELL out of me. They need to stick with acting and leave the politics to the politicians. I agree with him on some of what he said, but I also disagree with some of what he said. His movies are a lot more important to me than his political views. Thanks for sharing the video. I’ll keep doing my job and keep my political opinions to myself. I wish Hollywood would do the same.

    Michael,

Why is it whenever a celebrity speaks out on politics, whether it's a movie star or a country singer, the country looses it's collective mind? If any other citizen had posted Matt Damon's text word for word online, no one would bat an eye; if Bill O'Reilley or Keith Olberman had said something similar (and lets be honest, they've both said worse), no one would bat an eye. Somehow we hold celebrities to this standard that they're not allowed to have and express opinions like everyone else. Just because they have a platform that more people pay attention to doesn't make their opinions any less valid, and doesn't mean they don't have the right to express them. The outrage over Matt Damon, like the outrage over the Dixie Chicks and Toby Keith, just seems really silly and, frankly, a little against everything we're stupposed to stand for as Americans. Just my two cents.

    ~~JAG~~

Obviously 28% of your listeners think that Matt is exercising his rights……..so why are you trying to stir up bad press for him and not respecting his opinions…….if YOU have an opinion express it but don’t put down Matt for his……….I stopped listening to country radio because of the Toby Keith issue and how terribly the Dixie Chicks were treated……..I’ve recently come back to country because I thought maybe you all had wised up and you were showing respect to ALL opinions………personally I think Gov Palin is a JOKE as a candidate for VP……She is a crazed religious fanatic and I wouldn’t want anyone with those viewpoints in the White House….and she is a hypocrite who is only out for money and power……She would set women’s rights back by a hundred years……...I think McCain has either really lost his mind or he is so desperate to try to trick Hillary women into voting for him…………And any democrat woman in her right mind wouldn’t vote for Palin whether or not they were for Hillary or not………..Go Obama!!!!!!!! And I pray everyday that this country will get SMART and vote for him!!!!!!!!!!! As for you please remember you have 28% (last time I looked) of your listeners that obviously support different views from you so show us some RESPECT!!!!!!!!!!! And don’t put us down for our viewpoint. Have a nice day!!!!!!!!!!

    Michael J --

I agree with the poster, Joy - I don't know why so many people are scared about Palin's inexperience, and totally ignoring the fact that Obama is quite inexperienced himself! He's only been a US Senator since Jan. 2005, and was previously a state senator for about 7 years - so overall, he's got about 10 years collective experience in public office. But no famous people are bringing those facts to light, are they? Hollywood's got a total double standard, and it's really frustrating. Honestly, I'm annoyed by all the celebrities and how they like to put their political beliefs in the spotlight, but I just ignore it now, because I'm not gonna let the opinion of Matt Damon, or Oprah Winfrey, or whoever else, factor into who I'm going to vote for - and I don't think anyone should. Whomever you vote for, it's a personal decision, and one that I think you yourself have to make; it shouldn't be "Oh, well Matt Damon thinks this, so I should take his opinion as fact and vote for who he's voting for." I feel like many Americans (sometimes including myself) are very uninformed, and lots of times, misinformed, and we don't take the time to do the research ourselves, which in turn, causes us to go along with whatever the media says. I think that's really unfortunate. The right to vote is a tremendous privilege, and I feel we often forget that. So I would just like to encourage everyone, no matter what party you're a part of - go out and do the research, find out which candidate's views & policies line up with your own, make an informed decision, and voice your opinion by casting your vote!

Whatever you think, make sure you VOTE in the real poll , in November!
    Best,
    Michael J
