    My New Puppy- TUFFY!

Monday, August 11, 2008, 03:40 PM EST [General]

Jeff and I got a puppy on Saturday!  I want to tell you what happened- because a puppy is not necessarily what we were looking for...

We've been talking about getting a dog for some time now and had decided on a breed- German Wirehair.  My parents have a Wirehair named Max and he's an awesome dog!  Plus, Jeff is allergic to pet dander so we needed to get a hair dog.  A puppy is A TON of work so we thought if we could find a dog that was a little older- it would be perfect.  This breed of dog is often used for hunting.  Since we're not going to hunt with ours, we thought we could get one that hadn't sold because it didn't have the characteristics of a good hunter.  You know, a dog that's easy going and NOT aggressive.

We thought we'd found the perfect dog. (this is the part that's terribly sad).  A breeder we'd been talking to didn't have any pups or dogs for sale, but knew a guy who had a year old Wirehair he was looking to "get rid of".  He said the dog was playful and social.  We arranged a time to drive up and see him on Saturday.  It was terrible!  The kennel was filthy.  The dog was not only filthy, but had a huge sore on his ear.  The saddest part- he was TERRIFIED of people.  When the owner walked up to him, the dog cowered in fear peeing all over the place (a sign of submission and possibly worse- but I'm not going to make accusations) and would barley allow anyone to touch him.  After almost a year, the guy hadn't even bothered to give him a name.  When we left, I had a huge lump in my throat and was holding back tears.  We obviously didn't take him home, but we are reporting the conditions to the proper authorities.

I didn't tell this part of the story for any other reason then to remind people that we all need to make sure to take care of the animals that can't take care of themselves.  The idea of that guy trying to sell us a dog that, in all honesty, I think needs to be rescued is asinine!

     ...on to the happier part!

As we were on our way home, Jeff and I were talking about what we needed to do about that poor dog and realized, we just we missed our exit.

Suddenly there was a sign that read "Game Fair".  At this point it was 4:50pm.  Jeff said, "I think breeders bring their pups to game fairs, let's check it out".  We turned off the main road and headed to the game fair.

Once we paid $4 to park in someone's yard, we headed toward the main gates.  People were walking the other way in flocks and it was clear- if the Game Fair wasn't wrapping up for the day- it was about to.  Along the road, there were puppies for sale EVERYWHERE.  Black labs, yellow labs, chocolate labs, golden retrievers- as we got to the (now closed) main gate- there it was- a sign that read "GERMAN WIREHAIRS".  I ran to the pen, they had two males left!  It was fate!  We had to get one.  Little Tuffy woke up, gave us the "pick me" look and that was it- we went home with a Wirehair!  The ride home was interesting to say the least.  I'll save that part of the story until tomorrow!

Paris Hilton's rebuttle to the John McCain ad!

Wednesday, August 6, 2008, 11:38 AM EST [General]

I'm not the biggest (or even the littlest) Paris Hilton fan- but I thought this was pretty funny.

If you missed the story, McCain had used images in a tv ad of Paris and Britney Spears to compare Barack Obama, basically saying Obama is famous and not ready to lead the country- Paris is mad that the tv spot showed her in a bad light.

    Check out the clip!

Is this how SUNDAY got her name?

Tuesday, July 8, 2008, 02:57 PM EST [General]

Nicole Kidman's dad spoke out about how Keith and Nicole came up with their daughter's name, Sunday Rose.  Here's the story!  What do you think?

Kidman's dad reveals secret of Sunday
    July 09, 2008 12:00am

NICOLE Kidman's father yesterday solved the mystery behind his newborn granddaughter's name, revealing it was inspired by Australian artist Sidney Nolan's muse, Sunday Reed.

While the world's media puzzled over Kidman and her country husband Keith Urban's unusual choice of name for their baby Sunday Rose Kidman

Urban, Antony Kidman revealed he and his wife had suggested it.

"There was a lady named Sunday Reed who was a prominent patron of the arts in Victoria," Dr Kidman said from his practice in Lane Cove.

"I have read a bit about Sunday Reed and her husband John -- she was a key mover and shaker in the arts around the beginning of the century. The name Sunday struck me as being a nice name for a woman, so my wife and I mentioned it."

Sunday Reed was famous for her patronage of the arts, but also for her relationship with Sidney Nolan. Reed and her husband took part in a menage-a-trois type affair with the artist, which lasted nine years in the 1930s and resulted in Sunday becoming Nolan's muse.

The connection could be the reason behind Kidman and Urban's keen interest in a Sidney Nolan exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW shortly before they announced the pregnancy.

The exhibition, in January, featured a quote about birth from Nolan which was scrawled across a wall. "When you are young you are given a good view of life, because of your closeness to birth," it read.

Kidman appeared mesmerised by this quote, staring at it for a long time before Keith wrote it down.

"It was among other names being mentioned but they decided that was the name they wanted," Dr Kidman said.

Urban's brother Shane could not contain his excitement as he spoke to a Sunshine Coast radio station, revealing the baby's second name was a tribute to their late grandmother Rose.

"It's a wonderful wonderful thing, I'm so, so proud," he said.

The Nashville-based country music star posted his emotive, heartfelt message on his official website, where he thanked fans for all of their "thoughts and prayers".

Kidman's Mother Janelle and sister Antonia were both introduced to the newest member of their family yesterday, having travelled to Nashville in time for Sunday Rose's highly anticipated arrival.

Having turned down all lucrative media deals, the couple are expected to release a photo of Sunday Rose soon.

    Father's Day Craziness

Monday, June 16, 2008, 01:42 PM EST [General]

Hope all the Dads had a great day!  I had MANY calls to make.  My bio-dad, step-dad and father-in-law.  The calls are the easy part- the sending of the cards is what trips me up.  I don't know about you, but I think that growing up with the ability to send emails, pay bills online and just be connected 24-7 with cell phones has made it ridiculously difficult for me to send things via regular mail.  Luckily all the dads got their cards on time!  It's so funny how easy it is for me to buy the card, even write a heart-felt note, address it and put a stamp on the envelope- but mailing a letter- it's like you're asking me to saddle up a horse and pony-express the stinkin' thing myself....it's something I need to work on!
