New Smoking Warnings in England, have you seen 'em?

Friday, October 3, 2008, 04:02 PM EST [General]

When I saw the pictures they're putting on the actual packs of smokes, I had to look away- it's REALLY gruesome.  I don't know that it will make smokers quit, but will certainly make them want to transfer their smokes into a different package.

It also makes me feel pretty great about quitting- I'm at 2 months and 20 days without a puff- YEAH :)  Check out the article and pics....

    Sure You Want That Smoke?

Smokers in England will now be faced with gruesome images on their packs of cigarettes.

Cigarette packs will now feature grisly photos of late-stage throat cancer patients, blackened lungs, and rotting teeth. The images will be mandatory on all cigarette packs by October 2009, and on all tobacco products by 2010.

The images are in addition to already standard written warnings such as "Smoking clogs the arteries and causes heart attacks and strokes" and "Smoking can cause a slow and painful death."

The new campaign is the latest in a series of steps by the British government to curb tobacco use in the United Kingdom, where one in six people smoke.

Written warnings on cigarette packs became mandatory in 2003, and smoking was banned from public places in 2007.
